Why “The Benedict Post”?
“If you leave a white post alone it will soon be a black post. If you particularly want it to be white you must be always painting it again; that is, you must be always having a revolution. Briefly, if you want the old white post you must have a new white post. But this which is true even of inanimate things is in a quite special and terrible sense true of all human things. An almost unnatural vigilance is really required of the citizen because of the horrible rapidity with which human institutions grow old….We have not any need to rebel against antiquity; we have to rebel against novelty.”
– G.K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy
There is no question that the modern world poses particular challenges to Catholicism. More than ever, Catholics are called to be contra mundum. One path forward for orthodox Christians in today’s world has been called the Benedict Option: a refocusing and strengthening of our communities within the Church in order to truly evangelize the world. People are naturally attracted to orthodoxy but very few ever actually encounter it.
The Benedict Post works toward this goal: helping to draw attention to our traditional Catholic heritage so that we remain vigilant and continue painting the white post.
